Star Signs

I’ve never been that into Zodiac signs. I don’t do things like check my daily horoscope or anything, but I do find the concept interesting.

For the longest time, I just knew I was a Leo because I was born on July 30. Of course, with this being the cat symbol of the regular 12 Zodiac signs, I just attributed this as a reason for my love of felines.

But then the news stories about people’s Zodiac symbols possibly changing had some people confused. Apparently, I shifted from being a Leo to becoming a Cancer.

After doing a bit of  research, I realize I am definitely more of a Cancer than a Leo in a lot of ways.

Using these two particular web pages as reference points – Leo & Cancer – I will copy and paste some key passages that are relevant to me.

OK, so a person with the Leo sign is supposed to be …

The Leo type is the most dominant, spontaneously creative and extrovert of all the zodiacal characters. In grandeur of manner, splendor of bearing and magnanimity of personality, they are the monarch’s among humans as the lion is king of beasts. They are ambitious, courageous, dominant, strong willed, positive, independent, self-confident …

So based on just this passage, I have the ambitious trait down, but everything else is iffy at best for my personality.

Compare this to the Cancer …

The Cancerian character is the least clear-cut of all those associated with the signs of the zodiac. It can range from the timid, dull, shy and withdrawn to the most brilliant, and famous Cancerians are to be found through the whole range of human activity.

And …

That is not to say that the Cancerian is unsociable, just that for them there is a time to socialize and a time to be solitary, and this is part of the apparent contradiction in their nature. Outwardly they can appear formidable – thick-skinned, unemotional, uncompromising, obstinately tenacious, purposeful, energetic, shrewd, intuitive and wise, sometimes with a philosophical profundity of thought verging on inspiration.

I do consider myself enigmatic in the sense that I am not a straightforward personality. I know I am unique/peculiar/eccentric in so many ways, but I’ve grown to accept this about myself.

Even the usual faults for a Cancer are a bit more correct for me …

The Cancerian has many potential faults. They can be untidy, sulky, devious, moody, inclined to self-pity because of an inferiority complex, brood on insults (very often imagined), yet are easily flattered. They can be tactless and difficult yet, because they are normally ambitious, they will curry favor by floating with majority opinions, outlooks and fashions of the day. As a result they often change their opinions and loyalties and, indeed, their occupations, and lack stability.

Like all predictions, both of these signs have things that are right on the money about me, and then there are things that are way off. Based on accuracy of these predictions, I am definitely more of a Cancer than a Leo.

One thing about that has always been prevalent about me is, I have always had a difficult time making the right impression for people. This is one of the most defining traits for a Cancer. People with the Cancer sign can find it difficult to connect with others, whereas people with the Leo sign exude confidence.

So until someone or something credible says otherwise, I will just consider myself a Cancer sign from here on out.
